HUVR Obtains FAA Certificate of Authorization (COA) for 1400 Wind Turbine Inspections

HUVR among the first companies in the US to be granted FAA COA approval for commercial drone flying on 1400 Wind Turbines

Austin, TX, May 29, 2015 – HUVRData, LLC, the drone-based data analytics company, today received notification that the FAA had granted HUVR’s Certificate of Authorization (COA) application request to fly 1400 wind turbines within US Airpsace.   Following HUVR’s Apirl 2, 2015 FAA 333 Exemption grant, HUVR worked closely with FAA officials to follow the new FAA requirements to fly drones for commercial purposes.

Ben Williams, HUVR Co-Founder worked hand in hand with FAA officials in charge of COA application processing.   “We partnered with members of the FAA team in charge of COA application processing. Wind Farms are more complicated for the FAA to handle since each and every turbine must be applied for making the process and current website request portal extremely difficult to use and process for all sides.   The FAA officials were extremely helpful and we worked through the process to ensure that all of the FAA requirements were met so that HUVR could meet it’s business needs for the commercial inspections it is applying for. “

Since being granted it’s 333 Exemption, HUVR has begun engaging customers in the wind farm industry who are interested in using this new technology to change and improve their Operations and Maintenance procedures so that they can ultimately cut costs and keep the turbines turning longer.   HUVR delivers valuable data analytics using drone based inspections and cloud based services to assist its target customer to achieve this goal.

Ben Williams further stated that, “The FAA has a very tough job.   The COA application portal and process are all new and applicants are unsure how to use it.   We preferred to work closely with the FAA to partner on how to get it done and to help them through this process on how to improve and streamline their procedures. It was a win / win and we found the FAA to be very collaborative and helpful.   Our mutual concern to keep the US airspace around our target inspections safe was paramount and helped us achieve our mutual goals easily.”
