August 8 (Renewables Now) – Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets (MIRA) announced on Wednesday it has agreed to acquire Ocean Breeze Energy, the company behind the 400-MW Bard Offshore 1 wind farm in the German part of the North Sea.
The acquisition from Italian banking and financial services company UniCredit SpA (BIT:UCG) will be carried out through a consortium led by Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund 5. Financial details about the proposed deal were not provided.
The 80-turbine wind park, located 90 km (56 miles) north of the island of Borkum, became Germany’s first commercial offshore wind farm when it began operations in 2013. It uses Bard 5.0 VM turbines of 5 MW each and was installed at a cost of over EUR 1 billion (USD 1.12bn).
According to the statement, Bard Offshore 1 is currently the country’s most productive offshore power plant, generating electricity to supply around 463,000 homes per year.
